the last year of the 30s

Image
28 th April 2016 Hi World, I turned 39 today…my last year in the 30s before I step into official middle age. Honestly life has been feeling pretty blasé for some time. I have been in hold-on-to-status-quo-mode' for a while now and let life take its own route to wherever it’s going. By chance I ordered a pair of prescription glasses and they got delivered yesterday and I ended up wearing the new glasses today. The bright clear vision coupled with the fact that it is my birthday makes me feel rejuvenated. It feels like a veil has been removed and I am seeing the world anew. Perhaps it is time again to take hold of the reins and give a good tug. Life ought to spring back into some action and motivation. While everything could do with a new coat of paint figuratively and perhaps literally as well, I am picking up three areas in which I want to make a marked difference in the coming one year. Health : I am obese and need to lose weight like now. So the challenge...

My Demands for My Country....can anyone deliver?

Image
Technology, potential, resources, youth we have it all and yet the joke is that ‘the Chinese grow because of their government and the Indian despite it’. How do we manage to gather so much ridicule as a people and as a nation when as individuals we are amazing? The world’s biggest democracy has elected its leaders and the world is watching with interest what it will do with itself. Having become the world’s 3 rd largest economy what happens in India has the potential to make or mar the fortunes of many across the globe. The energized questioning atmosphere has made me think about what I would really like our leaders to talk about and the direction we as a country ought to take to ensure that we develop truly and not just in the breadth of our roads. Here’s my wish list: 1.     Truly Secular : we need to learn to live with the Other in camaraderie and not just co-exist in the same space but in separate mental ghettos. For that to really work our only hop...

My Dream Holiday!

Image
Malaysia. Truly Asia. The song and images of the Malaysian Tourism promotion shown on television stayed in my mind – long after they went off-air and to add to it I happened to come across a CD which had songs describing the beauty of the country which had me totally hooked. Which is why a visit to a country with 12 royal families – who elect their king and vice-king, every few years, sounds so intriguing. I would ideally want to have a family getaway around June.We would reach by late afternoon, freshen up a bit and  get photographed in front of Petronas Towers – arguably Malaysia’s best known man made marvel. Next is a visit to Penang Bridge -  a dual carriageway bridge that connects George Town on the island of Penang and Seberang Perai on the mainland of Malaysia on  the Malay Peninsula. Penang Bridge is also the longest bridge in Malaysia. 8.4 km of the bridge is above the water – sounds a lot like the part undersea bridge – connecti...

Winter of life

Image
Winters do something to me. While others get swaddled in layers upon layers of woolens I cherish the cold and welcome it. It makes all my dormant desires come alive. I want to experience new things, touch forbidden territories and create new road maps where none existed. It also makes me impatient. It makes me strain against all that binds me. I find it difficult to keep my head down and slog on as I usually do. The need to step off the highway of life and smell the flowers, turn the leaves becomes very strong. So strong in fact that at times it scares me. Winters are when I want to travel, explore and be curious. Winters are when I want to discard the old and try on the new. It’s as if my soul flirts with everything, unwilling to bind itself, unwilling to settle down. Narcissus, my favorite flowers are ones that can be seen at Delhi florists for a very short while during winters and their ephemeral fragrance haunts me. My biggest joy is to spot a bunch of thes...

Wishes for the New Year - 2011

Image

The countdown is on...

Image
Two more days and it will be a new year again... I was wondering what new year wishes I would like to make when it struck me that perhaps first I need to see how many of the wishes for 2009 actually came true. This is what I had posted last year as my wish list : And of these the biggest picture was of two people holding hands - I have been blessed with companionship and love and though we have occasionally fought, in our hearts we always knew that we are going to make up and be there for each other in any case. Chocolates: :) am happy to report that almost through the whole of the year my fridge has always been well stocked in this regard. There may not have been much else though at times. Perfume: have had some, will greedily say can always do with more Bag: I still havent found the one I can lose my heart to without losing my bank balance...so the search is on. Books: Did pick some this year.....though the list is nowhere close to the end. But that's a pleasure not pain. Jerusal...

New Year Wish List

This is my wishlist. Do share yours too!!! Have a brilliant year ahead and may peace reign on earth!!!

Sharadiya Subhecha - I pray

May the Goddess destroy all evil and give us all peace and prosperity. May she teach us love, brotherhood and tolerance. May she give each of us the ability to see things from the other's point of view also. May she make us a superpower not because of our ability to harness nuclear energy but cause of our spiritual strength. May she unite us not by painting us all in one colour but my making us resemble a beautiful collage of unity in diversities. May she bless us with wisdom.

Make love

Its Gandhi Jayanti….(hurray a holiday in the middle of the week and if you can afford to take the Friday off, you got a long weekend infront of you to relax, shop or prepare for Durga Puja too). Gandhi, a much abused in private and revered in public, man. When I was growing up I blamed Gandhi for dividing the country into two and creating what seems like an eternal enmity between two countries. It was stylish to say things like: Gandhi: that guy who spoke of abstinence and couldn’t walk without the support of two women under his arms. Gandhi: who with his blackmailing techniques of fasting didn’t allow any decisive action to be taken and would hold the country to ransom for the smallest thing. Gandhi: who slept with his thirteen year old granddaughter to check whether he has been able to control his body completely. Gandhi much like God was to be blamed for everything that was wrong with us. But now that I am on the other side of thirty and I see the rampant violence that’s engulfing m...

My Wish List

I wanted to create a wish list of my own and the blog guided me to froogle I asked for a cottage by the sea and it showed me paintings named so at nine dollars each. I was disappointed so I left it mid way, the things I want froogle can’t give me and the blog doesn’t allow what froogle doesn’t. So I decided to create my own post with my own wish list, one that I can keep updating and adding to without anyone bothering me. Here goes: · A cottage by the sea · And one in the mountains · A month long cruise · A trek in the mountains · A night spend in the open desert · Vist Leh, Andamans, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Israel, · Bathe in a waterfall much like the Liril girl but without people staring at me with or without lenses · Hear the open air concert that Leon mentions in Exodus · Love and be loved selflessly, freely without chains · Loads and loads of books, music and films to go through · A magic garden where I could plant a plant from every place I visit and they would all live together in ha...
