My Dream Holiday!
Malaysia. Truly Asia. The song and images of the Malaysian Tourism promotion shown on television stayed in my mind – long after they went off-air and to add to it I happened to come across a CD which had songs describing the beauty of the country which had me totally hooked. Which is why a visit to a country with 12 royal families – who elect their king and vice-king, every few years, sounds so intriguing.
I would ideally want to have a family getaway around June.We would reach by late afternoon, freshen up a bit and get photographed in front of Petronas Towers – arguably Malaysia’s best known man made marvel.
Next is a visit to Penang Bridge - a dual carriageway bridge that connects George Town on the island of Penang and Seberang Perai on the mainland of Malaysia on the Malay Peninsula. Penang Bridge is also the longest bridge in Malaysia. 8.4 km of the bridge is above the water – sounds a lot like the part undersea bridge – connecting Denmark to southern Sweden that my husband kept on gushing about, during his last year’s business trip to Copenhagen!
A trip by the Langkawi cable car is a must, but I would be in a fix – over whether to see the Penang National Park or the underwater Aquaria – but hey, we would perhaps settle down for the Malacca Zoo.
While I would leave father and daughter open-mouthed trying to catch a glimpse of the speed heroes of the F-1 Fixture at the Sepang Circuit, I would quietly slink away to shop for footwear and purses on Petaling street .
I know my daughter Aarini would insist on staying put at the Legoland. But we would wean her away with a precious Lego set and a promise to a trip to the Poring Butterfly farm that features a garden, nursery and hatchery for the purpose of research, education and the conservation of endangered species. The Poring Orchid Conservation Centre , With 1,200 species of orchids found with Kinabalu Park, the centre has the largest collection of Sabah's endemic orchids. A must bathe would be drenching ourselves at the Kipungit Waterfal land a visit to the Tropical Garden with Mousedeer and other deer , complete with colourful birds in the aviary. The Poring Canopy Walkway is a bit scary, but we would survive.
Am not much of a religious person but the harmony of various races and their intermingling – would mean a trip each to the Crystal Mosque, a Chinese Buddhist temple either the Kek Lok Si or the Thean Hou and the Tamil Hindu Batu caves for the giant gold statue of Lord Murugan – Kartikeya.
As the highest mountain in Malaysia, located in Sabah, at a height of 4095 m, Mount Kinabalu is the world 20th tallest. It is among the most biological sites in the world with over 4500 species of plant, 326 species of bird, and 100 mammalian species identified; the famous being the world’s largest flower, Rafflesia and the grandpapa like - Orangutan which is facing extinction. Oooh! Makes me dizzy already at the thought of all my childhood lessons – all coming to life.
Genting Highland is an adventurous and sporty place I agree, but I would prefer to unwind at the colourful First World Hotel (apparently one of the world’s biggest hotels with 6118 rooms) for a day or two. A fun-filled resort, a city of entertainment above a hill at Pahang, overlooking Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. If we could, we would prefer the Genting Skyway - which is the world’s fastest and longest in South East Asia. It is sometimes known as the Las Vegas of Malaysia, as it has two casinos.
Dragging my newly-converted casino addicted hubby might be a bit of a task, but our shared restless spirit and our common love for the beaches and the longing to add to our shell collection –would bring us to the Sumatran coast beach resort of Pankgor.
Last on our itinerary, before the board the aircraft for a detour to Singapore on our way back to New Delhi – would be Putrajaya – the seat of the government with its lush green pavilions, mosques, tree lined avenues and more.
Well as you can see...my plans are all set, now only if I could buy my tickets and be off.
I am participating in the MalaysiaJao Blogathon Contest in association with BlogAdda.com
