A Film Dissection On Facebook

Below is a conversation I just had with a person I would call more a role model than a friend...we were discussing a bengali film we both had happened to see. The film is a national award winner with an 'intellectual' star cast one would normally think before pointing fingers at but this was a private chat between people who don't mind calling a spade a spade and it made for an interesting read, so I thought I will share with you. I have added a link to the film at the end for those who may get curious enough to want to know more. :) A do u watch rituparno ghosh films - then u may not like antaheen its based on saumya vishwanathans story but just too many stories happening 1:22pm Priyanka i do watch those films....infact i have seen antaheen...just wanted to know what u felt about it A or maybe i am not used to watching adhunik bong films 1:23pm Priyanka same here......we normally catch a lot of world cinema where this story within story format is carried on fairly well....

THE TUESDAY ADDICTION

Its Tuesday again…our day for catching a French film at the Alliance Francaise, Delhi. Truth be told at times am not so enthusiastic about going. A list of chores to be handled beckons and I feel going homewards to tackle them or to just put up my feet somewhere and relax with a cup of coffee is a much better alternative. But those feeling vanish within the first five minutes of the film and am all eyes (I can’t understand French so rely on the subtitles for following the film). Each film I have seen is etched in my mind and inspite of almost a year’s regular film watching no two films seem the same nor do the storylines borrow from each other. Mention French films and what you hear are comments like these - ‘noir’, ‘sensual’, ‘too much skin show’ and ‘too arty’. And of course the snide side comments that ‘they are just trying to be oh-so-intellectual’ (this is said in regards to the audience). It’s all so very true including the part about us trying to be intellectual (but then we are...

Thanks to the handy camera in mobile phones we no longer need to just experience something we can also capture images/videos to share the same with others. Am putting down here some random shots taken in and around Delhi...its a testimony to my life and times. Hope you enjoy this journey, though its hardly enchanting all the time :) The bells that chime out the change in my life. It's neither golden nor rosy, its just easy right now. Easy with a free flow of thoughts, love and naughtiness. Easy with a shared sense of camraderie. Touchwood, am praying it stays this way always. Flowers in my garden. Its not Eden but I am not complaining. On the roads. What can I say? Perhaps this is enforced, "stand and stare" time. Sometimes brought up by the heavy traffic in the city.... Sometimes by somethings far more interesting... A few pictures from the recently held Osian. Some people including us have calendars which run from Osian to Osian. And all the goof ups not withstand...

Some bombinations in my head

State of the World : a movie we planned to catch at the Osian. The movie started, looked interesting sadly they were speaking Portuguese and most of us couldn’t follow. So we hollered for the subtitles and they finally came on….only they were in Italian. More booing and hollering followed without any consequence. Finally some folks went up to the projection room to find the tape running without anyone manning it. The description of the film had been that of six short stories by six different directors of 15 minutes each. The film running though had gone on for more than fifteen minutes and we grew suspicious that it wasn’t the right film at all. Finally the truth emerged…the volunteers came in to say that it wasn’t the right film and they were stopping it to show another one instead. Incidentally that film called Three Monkeys had already been shown the day before and most of those present had caught it. Didn’t make sense to see the same film again. So we walked out. Kept me wondering ...

My Blueberry Nights

I caught this movie yesterday at the 10th Osian cinefan festival at Siri Fort. Since the movie starred Norah Jones (someone we Indian’s love to call our own while rejecting Sonia Gandhi) the hall was choc a block. It was her debut movie and she did a fairly good job. Though frankly speaking her role though the lengthiest in the film was that of Miss Goodie Two Shoes and therefore much easier to perform than a more realistic grey character would have been for example that of Natalie Portman who plays a lovable gambler. So now why am I writing about this one of many American sweet as saccharine film though admittedly directed by a very renowned Director, Wong Kar Wai? Cause while I saw the movie at one level many questions came popping up in my head at another level, so I thought I will share the same with you and hope to receive some answers. To begin with let me give you a synopsis of what the movie is about to those who haven’t seen it so that we are on the level. Jeremy (Jude Law) ru...
