THE MUMBAI ATTACKS

The Taj Heritage building has been destroyed. The landmark which was as much talked about as perhaps the Gateway of India, is badly burnt and it will take months perhaps more to recover its glory. The Taj management promises to rebuild it brick for brick.
In the meantime, can we ensure please that those bastards dont get to ever touch a single brick or life in this country again.

I am upset and I am crying. For my country, for my countrymen and for the sad state we have brought ourselves to.
My humble request is:
Please lets be strong for each other and reach out a hand to all those who need it. AND PLEASE lets remember that those terrorists when they fired, fired blindly killing everyone in the line of fire be they be sikh, muslim, hindu, buddhist or atheist.

Dont let anyone turn this into a debate about religion. Those guys who did this have none. Lets ensure the guilty are punished with the most exemplary punishment possible for this dastardly act and every such act that this country had to suffer.

oh that's such a gorgeous picture, pinku, and i hope to see taj rebuilt brick for brick!!! i am so hurt. :( dont really know what to say. as usual, you manage to show a glimmer of hope while the world is lost in anger and pessimism.

I'm not crying. I'm seething with anger. If i could, i would ream the perpetrator of his existence. Gun shots have never been so jarring for me. This first time experience has shaken me.

What irks me most is that people blame the government for their impotence. It's like blaming your parents for the critters that sneak into your house. I say, work with the govt. and be a cohesive force and not a disruptive influence.

u know, it's nice to know someone who realizes this isn't about religion.
i really do hope we manage to put an end to this. i just don't know how.
Pinku I loved your take on terrorism and their activities. Yes this is the time to work together. We need to remember your words.

Tevor Penn, 'What irks me most is that people blame the government for their impotence. It's like blaming your parents for the critters that sneak into your house. I say, work with the govt. and be a cohesive force and not a disruptive influence.' I agree, brilliantly put :) I needed to remember that too!
I agree with Trevor...I'm horrified and terribly angry that someone is tearing apart my nation into shreds...nd yes the worst thing would be to brand ot as a hindu atack or a muslim attack. Terrorists have no religions. Shame on all those who started the saffron terror talk and the hinu bomb nd muslim bomb nonsense....bombs are bombs.

hey thats a nice thought: lets not turn this into a topic for debate and lest i think that i see people in the news turning it into a glamorous and glorified circus show! a bloody circus show!
and yes thats very well put Trevor. if you want to change the system then be in the system and if u cant be in the system then stop playing the blame game. seriously!
Prayers are potent. It might sound silly at a time like this but I am praying not only for the hostages and the people who are trying to save them but also for all those around the world who have so much hatred in their heart. Only the one above can restore things to sanity.

If our Admin, Politicians learn a lesson from this incidence, I think only that would be a tribute to those officers, jawans and hundreds who died. Otherwise anouncing a compensation is vulgar, simply vulgar.

I love to believe, this is the last incident in my country and we will be stronger, INSALLAH.

And if that's not enough, our shameless BCCI is working on resuming Test Series with England. It makes me even more sad.

Nicely put Pinku. The pain is such that I feel dazed and shocked.

Good that you have maintained the sanity that is required to deal with such situations.

I am close to losing mine.

A sorry and sad state of affairs- I hope and pray that families of all the martyers to cause find solace in the fact that their husbands, brothers, sons and nephews died in the service of the nation...the ultimate sacrifice that anyone can make. My heart goes out to the bereaved families of all victims too. thank you Pinku for sensitising us to the gravity of the situation.

There are two aspects to this ghastly attack: 1. the cynical philosophy and 2. the operational side. On the second, we need to strengthen our counter-terrorism machinery - thru laws, intelligence and force. On the first, we need to flush it out fr the root but without giving it a name.
im not angry..just sad for the people who have lost their lives...and praying for the brave commandos....
and taj is not completely destroyed.....

Friends All, thank you so much for your comments. We all feel the pain and like Keshi says its not about the geogarphical boundaries at all. It is about one human killing many others mindlessly.

Please lets all do our best to stop such incidents from happening. And ensuring that stability and unity reigns.

even middle eastern times said the same as i did and so did many other publications:

http://www.hindu.com/2008/12/02/stories/2008120255491300.htm

An editorial in the Middle East Times also exhorted the “silent majority” of Muslims the world over to speak out against the attacks. “The Muslim community around the world needs to wake up to the fact that there is no longer room for the silence of the silent majority. It is time for the leaders of the Muslim world — and the people of the Muslim world — to become vociferous. It is time for all Muslims who feel strongly about what happened in Mumbai to speak out against the violence.”

we are not making it about religion. we are talking logic ... and i hope more of us begin to do the same. about time! please put the politically correct agenda behind and let's get something done constructively.
Pinku said…
Roop....religion and logic dont go well together. If you wish logic to prevail then perhaps an appeal to Human beings is a better approach.

Exactly how many Muslims condemn the attack doesnt make any difference to the perpetrators of these crimes.

Being Sikh you would know that most Sikh families didnt endorse the activities of the Sikh terrorists....tell me did that stop those guys from behaving the way they did.

Today's Times of India says 40 Muslims died in the attacks in Mumbai.

This is not about Islam or any other religion, thats why my appeal to you dont ask any one part of society to speak up ask everryone to.

I hope you understand what I am saying. This is not about political correctness this is about my conviction. I believe by asking them to talk as a community we are actually proving that they are separate from us.

We all need to protest. Period.

Being Sikh, we took it upon ourselves to speak the loudest during terrorism: louder than our hindu friends could merely because we were Sikh and knew wat would work the best to control the misfit youth since they spoke the same as us and had the same cultural bground ... hence, easier to relate for both parties: them and us. I know my family did speak out a lot. That's the kind of upbringing I've had and I know nothing different. For me, funda is simple: to keep a city clean, each community is responsible for its own cleansing rituals. All members of each community have full responsibility of cleaning up their houses and surroundings.

Amen to that girl friend.
When I saw this on the news I was so upset all I wanted to do is check with my blogger friends to see if they were alright but all of this happened when the computer was down and I had no way to find out all I could think of to do is pray for you.

I am so happy to see that you are alright, well at least physically.
I don't understand the crazy mind of these terrorists. It seems that no one is safe anywhere.
Take care my friend.

Roop, I was living in Haryana when the Punjab violence was at its peak. I didnt hear the Sikhs say anything against it more than we did...a basic tsk tsk such a sad state of affairs kind of thing.
