Moronic Puppets

1984 – The PM is gunned down by her own security guards. People spontaneously take to the streets and start butchering their neighbors (we are told). The entire bureaucracy is stupefied and allows thousands to die before they can recover and take control.

1992 – The governments both State and Center stand by as the Babri Masjid is demolished. Riots follow – finally the center steps in to restore peace after letting things go horribly wrong. 2000 people are killed in riots that spread as far as Delhi and Mumbai.

2002 – A train is set on fire, in retaliation a whole state erupts – kills, maims and rapes. More than 2000 people are killed, lakhs are reported missing. The selective killings go on for almost three months before an uneasy peace can be restored. All this in a state where the CM otherwise runs everything with an iron hand.

2013 – A solitary eve teasing case ignites inter community riots. A state government which takes pride in bringing down elephants stands around organizing events for the ruling party’s big wigs to sit and plan their election roadmap. 31 people died in three days. The Center refuses to step in decisively; the CM wears a skull cap and acts all re-conciliatory while people continue to take the law into their own hands.

My learning from all this – WE ARE MORONS.

In all these years if we haven’t managed to elect  a government that can act and behave rational and humane, if when its time to vote we get swayed either by caste, colour or religious affinities rather than the candidates proven ability for development and progress then we deserve endless repetitions of the above.

We deserve being PUPPETS in the hands of politicians who merely at the pull of a string can rain havoc on our lives.
