Shall the text book win or shall we?

Love, they said is pure and innocent.
Love, they said gives wholeheartedly, simply
Love, they said made you kind and gentle
Love, they said was sublime and subtle

What is this then?

This tumultuous sensation that fills me when I think of you
The jealousy I feel when I see you absorbed in anything but me
The fierce waves of pain and pleasure that you unleash in me

Are these then not love?

Love, they said happened when boy meets girl
Love they said was the first kiss, the first touch
Love they said was eternal

What then do we call what we share?

We met after meeting and loving others
Amongst our most precious memories are those that we don’t hold in common
Our temperaments are different, so is our world view at times

Yet inspite of it all we have dared to share dreams, hopes and desires
Yet inspite of it all we have decided to be co-travelers on the road of life
We have shed tears of joy and sorrow for each other; we have lived in each others smiles
But is that enough to call it love?

Shall the text book win or shall we?

Opposites attract.
They give some pain sometimes, but at the end of the day, too much sweetness hurts. So differences should be there.
You meet the right one after meeting the wrong ones. That is a reason enough for you to value the right one.
God Bless.
Isn't it said that love is difficult to define...basically it is difficult to generalise on love. Some people die for those they love, others kill the ones they love! Opposites do attract, but you do need to have a lot in common. I think there are many, many ways one can love and be loved....very interesting post :) And so long as it brings happiness, all's fair in love.

if the other person is exactly like u, u'd rather live with urself na? which is why, is wont for them to be different...
text books haven't won anything... so there u go! :)
atb!
it can be both and it can be neither. it can be an intoxication and it can be a sedative. there is no definition, no boundaries.

Lovely post

what is love to u may not be love to me...love is such a vast and varying emotion.

beautifully expressed here!

Love is very difficult to define. It is a subjective experience. Chuck the textbook. Go with your instinct.

So spake the fool - 'tis better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all. Perhaps the the real emotion is raw, real and more gritty-grainy than the text-books dare describe.
Love is never the same everytime. If it was, what use was loving? :)

Dear Mampi,

u are a sweetheart in the real sense of the word…thanks for your kind words they greatly comfort. For all my tomboyishness guess am a woman after all and doubts plague at times.

Hey IHM,

yes if it gives happiness love is good. But if I ask whose happiness? Is only your own enough? What if your love hurts some other people?

Hey Swadha,

Amen to that…am hoping and praying we do. :)

Hey Rayshma,

thanks, yes a lil friction is good I agree and even a lil disagreement …makes the agreement sweeter.

Hi Cynic….welcome to my enchanted world…you are so right, it doesn’t have any definition but from the earliest times, bards and poets alike have tried and failed to do just that. At times I feel God and Love are very close in that respect.
But then again you may not believe in God.

Hey Keshi…thanks …and yes love for each one of us varies…the gr8 trick is to know how to love the way the other wants it or the way you want to.

hi Solitaire….coming from you …..I will go with that prescription :)

@ Parjanya...yes its actually like that...and it brings tears, hiccups and arguments and stormy thoughts...but at the end of it, it still feels worth it.

From a purely poetic perspective, it could use a little more fine tuning.

As for Love, it's great when you are in it. Simply because, it is a whole range of emotions packed into a nice little package. You might want to rip the other persons head off one moment; but want to cajole them the other.
